Cyprichromis leptosoma "malasa" yellow-tailed male

Cyprichromis leptosoma populations occurring along the Southeastern coast of L. Tanganyika exhibit similar coloration consisting of a clear blue dorsal with a black (blue-tailed males) or black and yellow (yellow-tailed males) spots at the posterior base of the dorsal fin. Populations contain both blue and yellow-tailed males with the yellow coloration tending towards yellow-orange in some.  Commonly available collection locations for this variant include:  Bulu Point, Utinta, Mpimbwe, and Malasa.

These C. leptosoma populations differ from the original so-called "blue flash" which display black colored veins in the dorsal and occur at locations on the Zambian coast in the southern end of the lake at locations including Mpulungu and Isanga.
