The hippopotamus
exhibit at Busch Gardens Tampa, FL includes a large pond filled with
Lake Malawi cichlids and viewable from a walk with glass windows
along one complete side of the enclosure. |
The fish density in this exhibit was
amazing.
|
 |
 |
The exhibit consisted
of a variety of mbuna species, a few non-mbuna, and a couple
non-cichlids. |
Maxine the hippo posses for the
camera....
|
 |
 |
....and then says
"hello" to the kids. |
The Metriaclima zebra "chilumba"
shown in the
center here were very common in the exhibit. Other common
mbuna included Ps. acei "white-tailed", Met. zebra OB,
Met. hajomaylandi, Pet. sp. "small blue", Mel. chipoke, and
Mel. auratus.

 |
 |
Maybe time to consider
some modifications to the fishroom plan (minus the hippo).
Most common non-mbuna is shown here
towards the lower left. Protomelas species of some sort
(perhaps spilonotus or taeniolatus) |
"Can we get back to the rides now?"
|
 |
 |
The pond included
large catfish from the Claroteidae
family. |
An adjacent Nile crocodile exhibit
housed Lake Victoria cichlids including Astatotilapia latifasciata,
'Haplochromis' sp. "flameback", 'Haplochromis sp. "red fin piebald",
and Pundamilia nyererei.
